I came across a copy of the book The Missing Ticket and Other Splendiferous Secrets by Roald Dahl (2010). The book has many interesting facts about the history of his classic children’s story, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:

Here is a sample:
In the first full version of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, there were ten children who received golden tickets.
Dahl then reduced the number of children to seven.
In an earlier version, Mike Teavee’s name was Herpes Trout.
Augustus Gloop was originally August Pottle.
The Oompa-Loompa were originally called Whipple-Scrumptets

The book also contains an entire chapter from an earlier draft that was cut from the final version. It also includes an earlier version of the ending of the story.
